Ansley Rubinstein

ANSLEY RUBINSTEIN
Harvard University, B.A., Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, B.A., Arabic Literature

While at Harvard, Ansley focused on modern Arabic literature and spent time in Jordan and Egypt. She spent three summers writing for the internationally-published travel guide, Let’s Go, traveling to Australia, Greece, Austria, and Germany to explore both cosmopolitan cities and remote islands. Ansley has spent time in India, South Africa, and Argentina studying urban issues around the world. She has taught dance classes at an orphanage in Peru and performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Most recently, she traveled to Thailand and completed her scuba certification. She has previously led programs for high school students in the United Kingdom, and she is currently working as a personal tutor for middle and high school students. Ansley has led Cultural Exploration Australia, New Zealand, & Fiji. She is proficient in Arabic and Spanish.

At William and Mary, Sarah-Graham participated in a variety of leadership roles, including working as an orientation aide, where she guided freshmen into the William and Mary community. While studying abroad in Seville, Spain, Sarah-Graham designed and taught English classes. She worked for three summers at Kanakuk Kamps in Missouri as a counselor for 7th–9th grade girls. Sarah-Graham has taught Pre-K through eighth grade Latin, Spanish, History, and English. She is currently a History and English teacher at Trinity Christian Academy in Dallas, Texas. Sarah-Graham has backpacked through Europe and traveled extensively throughout Central and South America, including to Chile, Argentina, and Peru. She is proficient in Spanish.

After graduating from Kenyon College, Mac spent two years teaching high school science in New York City as a Teach for America corps member, simultaneously earning his master’s in teaching from Fordham University. Gaining experience from working as a teacher, Mac began to explore his role in education outside of the classroom. He has been working with students of all ages in the areas of experiential education and self-discovery. Mac currently works for Carpe Diem Education, leading semester programs in Central America, South America, and the South Pacific. He has traveled extensively throughout Latin America and the South Pacific. Mac is proficient in Spanish and has led Foundations Australia and Foundations Costa Rica.

Andrew traveled and volunteered as a Rotary Exchange Student while living in Lima, Peru. While studying at the University of Vermont, Andrew participated in a service-learning course in Ecuador and volunteered at a cultural center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of his study abroad program. After graduation, he interned with the National Geographic Society before moving to Seattle to lead week-long service-learning trips for middle and high school students as an AmeriCorps Volunteer. Andrew currently works as a paraeducator. This fall, he will begin pursuing a master’s in International Education from the School for International Training. Andrew is proficient in Spanish and has led Foundations Costa Rica and Community Service Peru.

Sophie has participated in student exchanges to Japan, in middle school, and to Spain, in high school. While at Clark University, she studied abroad for a semester in Seville, Spain, where she continued her studies of Spanish and Music. After graduation, Sophie spent nearly a year living in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she performs at the annual Fringe Festival, and a summer in the Czech Republic volunteering at a hostel. She has traveled extensively through Europe, as well as South America, Asia, and the Middle East. Sophie has worked with youth for over ten years through teaching and counseling middle school students at a summer camp in Vermont. Additionally, she is a professional street performer, using her accordion and marionette to live a nomadic lifestyle. She is proficient in Spanish.

While at the University of Virginia, Lisa spent a semester in Valencia, Spain, where she studied Spanish culture, art, and language in Valencia, Spain. She has traveled to Nicaragua several times, where she volunteered in local schools and orphanages. After she completed her master’s in teaching, she taught high school humanities at an international school in Bangkok, Thailand, and traveled throughout southeast Asia. She led a service trip for high school students to the remote hill tribes of northern Thailand, where students hiked to secluded villages and learned about the diversity in Thai lifestyles. Lisa currently works as an 8th grade Civics teacher, student mentor, and varsity soccer coach. She is fluent in Spanish and has led Foundations Costa Rica.

 

Jesús Ruiz

JESÚS RUIZ
St. Lawrence University, B.A. Caribbean and Latin American Studies; SUNY Buffalo, M.A. Caribbean Cultural Studies; Tulane University, Ph.D, Latin American Studies (candidate)

While at St. Lawrence, Jesús studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, and San Jose, Costa Rica. During his time at SUNY Buffalo, he studied abroad in Yucatán, Mexico, where he explored the world of the ancient Maya and in Seville, Spain, where he conducted archival research at the General Archive of the Indies. Jesús is now in the second year of his PhD program at Tulane University, where he teaches Introduction to Latin American Studies courses to undergraduates. He has traveled extensively including hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, skiing the southern slopes of New Zealand, spotting whales during a five-day sailing trip in the Whitsunday Islands of Australia, diving with white-tip reef sharks in the Galapagos Islands, and visiting Citadelle Laferrière in Northern Haiti. Jesús is fluent in Spanish and Haitian Creole. Jesús has led Language Learning Costa Rica, Community Service Costa Rica, Community Service Dominican Republic, Community Service Ecuador & Galapagos, and Cultural Exploration Australia, New Zealand & Fiji.
